Power to the Pixel was founded 10 years ago and has been an influential voice in the most turbulent period of change in the history of the media and entertainment industries.
We decided that a decade in business was a good place to stop and take stock of where we've been and where we want to go next. The media landscape has transformed dramatically since 2006, and so have the needs of content creators, producers, and audiences.
Reflecting on a Decade
Over the past ten years, Power to the Pixel has been at the forefront of the digital revolution in storytelling. Through our flagship programmes - The Cross-Media Forum and The Pixel Lab - we've brought together thousands of creators, commissioners, and industry professionals to explore new forms of narrative and business models.
We've witnessed and participated in:
- The rise of transmedia storytelling and cross-platform narratives
- The emergence of virtual reality as a storytelling medium
- The transformation of audience engagement and participation
- New funding models and distribution platforms
- The convergence of film, gaming, and interactive media
Evolution, Not Revolution
As we look to the future, we're not abandoning what we've built. Instead, we're evolving to meet the changing needs of the industry. The fundamental questions remain the same: How do we tell compelling stories? How do we reach and engage audiences? How do we build sustainable creative businesses in a digital age?
New Focus Areas
Moving forward, Power to the Pixel will focus more intensively on:
- Immersive Media: VR, AR, and XR experiences that push narrative boundaries
- Strategic Consulting: One-on-one work with creators, institutions, and businesses
- International Collaboration: Building bridges between markets and creative communities
- Curation and Programming: Identifying and showcasing innovative work at major festivals and events
A Personal Note
From my perspective as founder and CEO, this evolution represents an opportunity to work more deeply with individual projects and organizations, bringing all of the knowledge and networks we've built to bear on specific challenges and opportunities.
I'm excited about this next chapter. The work I'm doing with Venice VR, Creative XR, and other initiatives allows me to stay at the cutting edge of immersive storytelling while supporting the next generation of creators pushing the medium forward.
Thank You
To everyone who has participated in Power to the Pixel events, programmes, and projects over the past decade: thank you. Your creativity, passion, and willingness to experiment have made this journey extraordinary. The relationships and ideas that emerged from our community continue to shape the future of storytelling.
While we may be changing how we work, our commitment to supporting innovation in storytelling remains as strong as ever. Here's to the next chapter.
